NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Cabela’s Outdoor Fund received the National Wild Turkey Federation 2018 Outstanding Partnership Award, recognizing its positive impact on conserving wildlife and habitat while preserving hunting heritage.
Cabela’s Outdoor Fund earned the award at the 42 nd annual NWTF Convention and Sport Show in Nashville, Tennessee for its support of NWTF’s Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt. initiative. A three-year grant from COF allowed NWTF to host a series of mentor-hunting programs for young adults across five U.S. states. The grant also supported additional efforts to recruit, retain and reactivate hunters across the nation.
“The success our R3 programs have seen over this past year would not have been possible without the support of Cabela’s Outdoor Fund,” said Becky Humphries, NWTF CEO. “Cabela’s, like the NWTF, recognizes the urgent need to recruit, retain and reactivate hunters, and we are grateful for the support they have shown as we work to Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt.”
Cabela’s Outdoor Fund is a nonprofit organization dedicated to efforts that promote and protect hunting, shooting sports, trapping, fishing, camping and conservation. It contributes to other like-minded organizations in communities across the country working to make the great outdoors even better. It is funded by customers who round up their purchases in Cabela’s stores to the nearest dollar.
“There is a large focus on the need to recruit hunters, but NWTF has taken the important step of being a proactive leader in those efforts,” said Scott Wanetka, vice president of Cabela’s Outdoor Fund. “They have put words into action with programs that teach adult onset groups like millennials how to hunt. These efforts align well with Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s priority of connecting new audiences to the outdoors. We are proud to support NWTF and appreciate the honor of receiving this award.”
Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s joined forces in September 2017 to establish North America’s premier outdoor and conservation company. The combined company is poised to provide customers with unmatched offerings spanning premier destination
retail, outdoor equipment manufacturing, world-class resort destinations and more with a strong commitment to advancing conservation initiatives.

About the National Wild Turkey Federation
When the National Wild Turkey Federation was founded in 1973, there were about 1.3 million wild turkeys in North America. After decades of work, that number hit an historic high of almost 7 million turkeys. To succeed, the NWTF stood behind science-based conservation and hunters’ rights. The NWTF Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt. initiative is a charge that mobilizes science, fundraising and devoted volunteers to raise $1.2 billion to conserve and enhance more than 4 million acres of essential wildlife habitat, recruit at least 1.5 million hunters and open access to 500,000 acres for hunting.
