S.C. Member Smokes Field at Turkey Cooking Contest

Craig Clark, a member of the NWTF Neil "Gobbler" Cost Chapter in Greenwood, S.C., won the inaugural Turkey Cooking Contest Nov. 16 in downtown Edgefield, S.C.

Clark was the only contestant to smoke a turkey, an impressive feat considering he had only 7 to 8 hours to cook the turkey. The other four contestants entered a deep-fried turkey.

Contestants, judges and spectators enjoyed a beautiful fall day with sunny skies and mild temperatures. Downtown Edgefield was decorated for Christmas, adding to the festive atmosphere in the busy town square.

Attendees were treated to various food samples from Bruce Foods of Louisiana. Later, everyone was given samples from the turkeys in the contest.

Clark, who won $250 and a trophy, said he would return to defend his title next year in the contest, which is expected to grow due to the success of the debut event.

Billy Burch of Edgefield finished second. Bruce Foods finished third.
