NWTF helps the USFWS with prescribed burns at NWR

The NWTF and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service collaborated on a prescribed burn project at the Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge to improve pine and pine-hardwoods habitats.

The project included chemical removal of invasive species and woody vegetation. Staff also used prescribed fire to promote a more beneficial understory. During the project, partners constructed firelines and trained staff to assist with burns.

These treatments benefit the wild turkey as well as the bobwhite quail and the red-cockaded woodpecker.
