2019 Fall Hunt Guide

Fall approaches, and with it comes opportunity in the field. For wild turkey enthusiasts, fall turkey hunting provides its own unique challenges — from busting the flock with dogs and calling them back together, patterning flocks for a hunt or scouting to discover the young-of-the-year. About 85% of states offer some form of fall turkey hunting, and many coincide with other fall hunting seasons for other game animals. While wild turkeys stand on their own as the greatest game bird to pursue, opportunities exist to plan out-of-state hunts for multiple species or to try a different discipline of hunting. The 2019 Fall Hunt Guide provides potential combination hunts for several states that offer the opportunity to hunt multiple game animals, most importantly the wild turkey. You’ll find highlighted combo hunts in this guide for each of the Grand Slam subspecies.
No matter what you’re hunting this fall, use this guide to look at the possibility of experiencing autumn turkey hunting for the first time. The opportunity to provide organic and nutritious table fare for your Thanksgiving dinner awaits. Just be sure to check the state regulations where you’ll be hunting using the state agency website provided. Best of luck this fall!

Bird dogs will point turkeys, which may hold quite tightly in tall grasses. This may not be like the traditional usage of dogs for fall hunting. California — The California Department of Fish and Wildlife provided funds to the NWTF from its Upland Game Bird Account for two habitat improvement projects. First, the NWTF completed a project on the 21,000-acre Knoxville Wildlife Area to convert a grassland dominated by nonnatives back to native grassland, and installed two water sources. The department also funded the mastication of 50 acres of ponderosa pine as part of a 2,976-acre forest thinning project in the Eldorado National Forest.
