Mossy Oak develops first camo for ground blind hunters

The days of wearing dingy, black long-sleeved shirts or mismatched camo to keep concealed in the depths of a ground blind are now a thing of the past.

Mossy Oak has unveiled Eclipse, a nearly all black camo specifically designed to keep hunters concealed while hunting out of a ground blind.

It features a black overlay version of Mossy Oak’s popular Break-Up Country pattern with cutout portions exposing the pattern, erasing the human outline inside a blind.

The use of ground blinds has increased exponentially in recent years. In 2016, True North Marketing estimated 64 percent of hunters used ground blinds.

“A number of factors contribute to this growth, including safety, ease of use, low cost blinds and how well blind hunting is suited to mentoring new hunters,” said Chris Paradise, chief sales officer for Mossy Oak. “To be most effective while hunting from a blind, the interior of a ground blind needs to be as dark as possible to hide the hunter. Until now, there hasn’t been an effective camouflage solution to address the ground blind environment.”

In a 2017 survey conducted by True North Outdoor Marketing, 88 percent of ground blind hunters prefer dark-colored apparel when hunting. Designed with the Mossy Oak Break-Up Country pattern as the background, Eclipse fades out the pattern with a black overlay leaving only hard shadowing and contrast.

“Our driving passion at Mossy Oak is to help others be successful in the outdoors,” said Toxey Haas, founder and CEO of Mossy Oak. “With over half of hunters hunting from ground blinds where they are less exposed and hidden from natural light, we saw an opportunity to develop a pattern to help them hide even more inside the blind. Often hunters choose camo patterns for identity as much as effectiveness. Well, ground blind hunters now a have pattern for their hunting identity with Eclipse.”

Walmart stores will carry the new pattern, which should be available after August 1.
