Wheelin' Sportsmen NWTF Clay Shootout Rides into South Carolina

September 24, 2003

On October 9-12, 2003, the Wheelin' Sportsmen Carolina Clay Shootout will offer a snapshot of those things that are simply satisfying: a good crisp fall weekend, a steady aim, and BBQ on a Saturday night. The event is also about bridging the gap between the disabled and the outdoors.

"Events like this break down barriers and give us an opportunity to allow the disabled to be introduced to the sport," said Kirk Thomas, National Coordinator of Wheelin' Sportsmen NWTF, an outreach program of the National Wild Turkey Federation that benefits disabled outdoorsmen and women. "It's also a chance to get outside, to be active and competitive," said Thomas.

The shoot will take place in Georgetown, SC at the Back Woods Quail Club. Participants can register beginning Thursday, October 9th. On Friday, the first round of shooting starts at 10 a.m. as disabled shooters pair up with volunteers to shoot trap, skeet, five-stand and other events - all at no cost. The clay shootout will kickoff on Saturday. Starting times are scheduled for 8:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 2:30 p.m. There will be 200 targets with three rotations.

Wheelin' Sportsmen NWTF will host an Awareness Banquet and Trick Shooter Show on Saturday night. This is where the BBQ comes in. There will also be a silent auction and games.

For directions to Back Woods Quail Club or to register for the Wheelin' Sportsmen Carolina Clay Shootout contact Robert Patterson at 843.546.1466. Money raised from the Clay Classic benefits Wheelin' Sportsman NWTF.
