Outdoor Activities for Kids at Cabela's Spring Expo in Kansas City
Kids in Kansas City have the unique opportunity to spend a chilly Saturday afternoon indoors, learning about the outdoors. The National Wild Turkey Federation's youth outreach program, JAKES, will offer outdoor activities and seminars during Spring Expo at the Kansas City, Kansas Cabela's store, Feb. 28, 9a.m.- 3p.m.
"We're focusing on the kids," said Kevin Grosdidier, Kansas State JAKES coordinator. "But since the event is part of Cabela's Spring Expo, there'll be a lot going on for parents, too. This event is great because it offers so much variety."
A wide range of outdoor activities and seminars are planned for the day including archery, fishing, optics, camping, turkey calling and muzzle loading. Kids will also see first hand how the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks safely captures and releases wild turkeys for wildlife restoration projects.
Through JAKES, children ages 17 and younger learn basic outdoor skills necessary to become successful stewards of our natural resources. They learn to be responsible outdoorsmen and women through fishing, camping and hunting seminars and activities.
"We're really pleased and proud to have a JAKES event at our Kansas City store," said Helen Stonhill, Cabela's Retail Marketing and Promotions Manager. "As a company, we're committed to youth education. So when an opportunity comes along to bring the kids into one of our stores and expose them to the tradition of hunting, well, that's what it's all about."
Other host and sponsors of the event include; The Crappie Angler Sportsman Tour, (C.A.S.T America), Coleman , Bushnell, H.S. Strut, Ranger Boats, Garmin, Southern Pro Tackle, Knight, Hodgdon, Eastman Outfitters, Mathews Bows and Shakespeare.
The JAKES Youth Event and Cabela's annual "Spring Expo" is free and open to the public. For more information about the JAKES event or the JAKES program, contact Kevin Grosdidier, Kansas State JAKES coordinator, (816) 223-3631.
