Rochester Resident Wins JAKES Hunt of a Lifetime

13 year-old Jacob Minske of Rochester, Minn. was chosen in a random drawing from 213,000 National Wild Turkey Federation JAKES members to hunt wild turkeys on the legendary King Ranch in South Texas. The all-expenses-paid April hunting trip includes license fees, equipment and travel expenses.

"I was very excited," said Minske. "But I think my dad was more surprised. We've been on the internet reading about the ranch, how big it is and everything."

The 825,000-acre ranch has an abundance of Rio Grande birds, a subspecies of the wild turkey, along with plentiful wildlife habitat that ranges from fertile black farmland to open pastures that mark the beginning of the Texas brush country. Jacob and his dad, Jeff, will accompany Carl Brown, NWTF Chief Operating Officer, and Dick Rosenlieb, the NWTF's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, on the 2004 JAKES Hunt of a Lifetime.

JAKES, a NWTF youth outreach program, currently has more than 213,000 members and NWTF chapters hosted more than 600 local JAKES events across North America in 2003.
