What is a Forester?
A forester is a person who manages forests for both wildlife and humans. Forests are vital to many species of wildlife and plants. It is a forester’s job to make sure there is a balance between what wildlife need and what is used to make products that humans need.

Foresters protect the health of a forest by helping prevent devastating forest fires, disease and wood-destroying insects, which can kill a forest. They also decide which trees to harvest to make wood and paper products and when to plant new trees. Their skills help a forest grow rich and healthy.

A forester's job has a lot of responsibility, but if you like working outdoors with nature, then forestry might be a good career for you. It is important to know a lot about the different sciences involved in a forest, such as botany (the study of plants), zoology (the study of animals) and chemistry, and many colleges offer a degree in forestry. Other important skills needed by a forester include knowing how to use a map and compass and understanding outdoor safety.
