F.A.Q.

Click on a question to expand.

1. Who is responsible for the trailers?

Each state will need to appoint someone as the main contact for the JAKES Take Aim program. Some states prefer to maintain the trailer and schedule for use themselves and others are going to work with their state agencies. Trailer contact information for your state can be found on the contacts page.

2. Where will the trailers be housed?

Arrangements for storage of trailers will be determined by each state board and field staff.

3. Who manages the trailer, checkout, check in?

In each state there is one point of contact for the trailer; in some cases, that person will be NWTF staff, but not always.

4. What shooting equipment comes with the trailer?

Equipment for indoor and outdoor ranges is provided. Please be careful to use ONLY BBs and Grizzly or Buck model pump guns in the inflatable range. Information for setting up a safe range is available in the JAKES Take Aim manual.

  • 6 Daisy Grizzly model 840 youth airguns
  • 4 Daisy Buck or Model 10 youth BB guns
  • 2 Winchester Model 1028 break barrel pellet rifles (outdoor range use ONLY)
  • 2 Winchester Model 1029 break barrel pellet rifles (outdoor range use ONLY)
  • 2 Powerline model 953 Target Pro pellet rifle (outdoor range use ONLY)
  • BBs and pellets
  • 12 pairs of Daisy Shooting glasses
  • Airgun target pads
  • 2 pellet traps
  • 6 foot table
  • 2 metal folding chairs
  • Tent
  • Removable jack wheel
  • Spare tire
  • Mounting kit

5. Can the state chapter add additional equipment to the trailer?

Yes, other equipment, not funded by the grant, (shotguns, archery) can be added to the trailer. However, the primary focus of the JAKES Take Aim program MUST be shooting and the number of shooters must be reported to the NWTF. ONLY DAISY airgun equipment is allowed.

6. How are maintenance and supply restocking funded?

For the 4 year duration of the grant, BBs, pellets, targets, replacement guns, etc. will be ordered from and supplied by the NWTF through our grant and arrangement with Daisy. Please see the JAKES Take Aim manual for an order form. An inventory sheet is also included in the manual and should be utilized after each use.

7. Are all JAKES Take Aim events covered under NWTF liability insurance?

All JAKES Take Aim events must be registered using the JAKES Registration Form. Events should be submitted to the NWTF 6 weeks prior to the event. Release forms, event posters and a reporting form will be mailed to your attention and your event will be listed on the JAKES website. Every participant, parent, instructor and volunteer must sign the release form prior to the event. For large events the "list style" release form can be placed on clipboards. For smaller events with pre-registration, release forms can be completed prior to the event.

8. How are trailers titled and insured?

For the duration of the grant, trailers will be owned, insured and maintained by the NWTF. Trailers are properly licensed within each state. Trailers have NWTF liability and physical damage coverage. In the case of an accident, please contact your regional director.

9. What types of events qualify for JAKES Take Aim?

Ranges should be reserved for use with youth. The number one goal for the program is to get more youth shooting. Trailers and ranges can be used at youth events, such as JAKES events, Boy or Girl Scouts, 4-H, FFA, outdoor expos, church groups, sporting goods stores, banquets and anywhere youth can shoot. Please make sure to report the number of youth who shoot using the JAKES Take Aim equipment and ranges.

10. Are all JAKES Take Aim participants required to become JAKES members?

Membership is not required, but certainly encouraged. The NWTF is a membership organization and its program cannot survive without members. Where it is appropriate, the registration fee for the event can cover the $10 membership fee. If this is not possible, memberships can be sold at the event.

11. How do I report the number of youth shooters?

For each JAKES Take Aim event you should complete a JAKES event reporting form with the number of shooters. You can also submit this information on the JAKES Take Aim website. This information is vital to the grant and is the number one piece of information we will report.

12. Do trailers meet towing specs for NWTF Chevy Colorados that most field staff drive?

Yes. Our trailers are 6x10 and weigh 1100 pounds, so even when filled with our equipment they fall well within the towing capacity of 5,000 lbs.

13. How do I schedule a shotgun event?
