Conservation Seed and Seed Subsidy Member Level Benefits
Availability - It is critical to understand that seed availability is limited around the country. Though the State Chapter may order seed each year for distribution to local chapters seed may not be available at all. Therefore it is important to not depend on seed being available. In 2012 we were fortunate to have even the limited quantity that was available. Chapters requested over 1,500 bags in total and we were limited to only 1,200 bags being available for delivery to NY State. In the future we will continue ordering seed, but there is no guarantee of availability. Local Chapter Presidents are required to request seed through our late summer/early fall survey that is sent out by mail or email. If a Local Chapter does not return the survey they will not receive seed. If you do not receive a survey by September 1 of each year please do not hesitate to email or call the State Chapter President or NWTF Regional Biologist. These surveys are typically mailed/emailed the first week of August each year.
Local Seed Distribution - Seed distribution at the local level is at the discretion of Local Chapter Presidents. If you are an NWTF member interested in obtaining seed please contact your local chapter President and request seed. Again, because of limited availability there may or may not be seed available for you.
Program Guidelines- A maximum of 5 bags of seed per member is allowed. However, distribution is at the discretion of the Local Chapter Presidents. Seed must be planted and left standing for wildlife food and cover through winter. Seed cannot be harvested for any reason. Those receiving seed must sign a Stewardship Agreement form indicating they understand the conditions of the program. Additional program conditions are listed on the Stewardship Agreement form that must be adhered to.
