Lee Johnson

Hometown: Bakersfield, Calif.

Home Chapter: Bakersfield NWTF

Title: Chapter President

Family: Son Jerrad, 22, daughter Leanne, 24, and wife of 27 years, Joan

Notable Fact: The Bakersfield chapter is one of the NWTF's largest chapters.

NWTF: Lee, what advice can you give for chapter success?

Lee Johnson: I'd say that staying in communication with people is very important. You've got to do a good job of putting the word out about your events.

NWTF: What about banquets? How do you successfully host such large events?

LJ: Setups are crucial! Having things ready to go, well-decorated and laid out nice is crucial to making a good impression when the attendees arrive.

Attendees also appreciate that we recognize the military during our events. Also, the more you can do to get the kids involved, the better. We try our best to ensure that everyone goes home happy.

NWTF: What's the best part of being an NWTF member?

LJ: I've been doing this for 16 years, and it's rewarding to see where the money goes, especially our outreach programs.

NWTF: Did you get to attend this year's convention, and if so, what did you think of it?

LJ: I went, and it was great! I'd have to say 2009 marked one of our best conventions ever. I tell people they need to go check it out at least once, because after they do, it will light a fire under them and get them motivated to go out and spread the word about the NWTF and protecting our hunting heritage.

NWTF: Lee, why should people join the NWTF?

LJ: Simply put, we speak in numbers, and numbers have power! Lawmakers listen to us because of our clout.

We have a great team, we're headed in the right direction, and our leadership is doing a good job.
