Young Haubstadt Artist Places Fourth in National Art Contest
EDGEFIELD, S.C. — McKenzie Wilzbacher, 17, of Haubstadt, Ind., placed fourth in the 15 to 17 age group of the National Wild Turkey Federation's Youth Art Contest.
A panel of judges recognized Wilzbacher for her outstanding artwork in preparation for the NWTF's 35th Annual National Convention and Sport Show, sponsored by MidwayUSA.
The show, themed "Our Youth. Our Legacy." to honor the next generation of hunters and conservationists will take place Feb. 17 to Feb. 20 at Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tenn.
Wilzbacher's art will be displayed at the NWTF's National Convention and Sport Show and in its Winchester Museum in Edgefield, S.C., the only museum in the world dedicated to the restoration, management and hunting of the wild turkey.
The Youth Art Contest offered artists ages 6 to 17 chances to win $1,000 in prizes. Four age groups were judged; 6 to 8; 9 to 11; 12 to 14 and 15 to 17.
The contest is another way the NWTF urges youth to become involved in wildlife conservation. The NWTF's education and outreach programs provide a variety of conservation education and outdoor recreation opportunities for youth, educators and students of all ages.

NWTF JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship) outreach program is for youth ages 12 and under. Xtreme JAKES is the NWTF's outreach program geared toward teens, 13 to 17 years old.
NWTF JAKES and Xtreme JAKES outreach programs provide outdoor opportunities for youth and are vital to preserving America's hunting heritage. Throughout the year, local NWTF chapters host hundreds of events nationwide that offer participants countless outdoor recreation opportunities.

Through dynamic partnerships with state, federal and provincial wildlife agencies, the NWTF and its members have helped restore wild turkey populations across the country, spending more than $331 million to conserve 15.9 million acres of habitat for all types of wildlife.
