NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The volunteers who comprise the Bakersfield Chapter of the NWTF are committed to introducing other women to the outdoors.
As volunteers of the NWTF's Women in the Outdoors outreach program, chapter committee members seek to educate and form friendships by extending an invitation to women in their community to enjoy the great outdoors at ladies-only Women in the Outdoors events.
For its dedicated work to support the NWTF's Women in the Outdoors program, the Bakersfield (Calif.) Chapter won two awards at the 36th annual NWTF National Convention and Sport Show in Nashville. MidwayUSA was the official convention sponsor.
The Bakersfield Chapter took home the Best Overall Sponsor Membership Achievement Award and won the Best Local Membership Achievement Award for the sixth consecutive year. The Bakersfield Chapter hosts the largest Women in the Outdoors event in the country, welcoming more than 560 ladies to this past year's event at beautiful Tejon Ranch.
"We're extremely proud of each volunteer involved with the Bakersfield Chapter," said Teresa Carroll, Women in the Outdoors coordinator. "Their commitment to educating other women in their community about the value and joy of the outdoors is commendable."
At Women in the Outdoors events, participants can try a variety of outdoor activities including shooting, archery, outdoor survival, self-defense, canoeing, hiking and more. Friendly instructors teach classes and seminars to participants of all skill levels. Some events are group hunts that are led by experienced guides who mentor participants.
Since 1998, NWTF volunteers have worked through the Women in the Outdoors program to share the outdoor tradition by providing expert instruction and hands-on education through events designed for women. During its inaugural year, Women in the Outdoors hosted 18 events. Today, the program has held nearly 4,000 events across North America.
The NWTF is a nonprofit conservation organization that works daily to further its mission of conserving the wild turkey and upland habitat and preserving our hunting heritage.
Through dynamic partnerships with state, federal and provincial wildlife agencies, the NWTF and its members have helped restore wild turkey populations across the country, spending more than $372 million to conserve 17 million acres of habitat for all types of wildlife.
The NWTF works to increase interest in the outdoors by bringing new hunters and conservationists into the fold through outdoor education events and its outreach programs – Women in the Outdoors, Wheelin' Sportsmen, JAKES and Xtreme JAKES.
