NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Longtime NWTF volunteer Gordon Vines of Jacksonville, Fla., was recognized with the Wild Turkey Bourbon Rare Breed Society Award during the NWTF’s National Convention and Sport Show February 11.

Sponsored by conservation partner Wild Turkey Bourbon, the Rare Breed Society Award is presented each year to a volunteer who exemplifies grassroots dedication to the NWTF’s mission, programs and wild turkey conservation.

“I can think of no one more deserving of this honor than Gordon Vines,” said NWTF National Board Member Marvin Hartley. “I have known Gordon for many years, and he works tirelessly promoting the NWTF, the conservation of the wild turkey and the preservation of our hunting heritage.”

Vines has been a dedicated NWTF volunteer for more than 30 years. A Guardian Life Sponsor, he is a founding member of the Florida State Chapter and the Jacksonville Chapter, having served as president of the state chapter. He also has served on the NWTF’s National Board of Directors and as president of the NWTF’s Research Foundation.

Today, he contributes to local, state and national NWTF auctions by designing and creating unique jewelry pieces and awards, even designing the Grand National Calling Championship rings that are won by the world’s best turkey callers.

“I’m very humbled by this honor. I could name many people who are more deserving than I,” said Vines. “I’m thankful to the people of the NWTF going back to the beginning from Tom Rogers to Rob Keck and, now, to George Thornton. It’s hard to imagine what my life would have been like without the NWTF: It has been such a wonderful part of my life.”
