New spring turkey season set for Cape Cod National Seashore
A new spring turkey hunting season will open public hunting land on Cape Cod National Seashore in Massachusetts.
Starting in 2006, NWTF members in Massachusetts provided valuable input regarding establishing the season.
"This new season is an excellent example of how state and local NWTF chapter involvement can open doors for new hunting opportunities," said Doug Little, NWTF regional biologist for Massachusetts.
Since 2008 Seashore staff have worked to establish a regulation change to allow the spring turkey hunt, while also restoring 270 acres of upland game bird habitat.
The spring turkey hunt will be consistent with most of the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Wildlife regulations.
Permits for 2012 National Seashore season will be available at no cost beginning April 2, 2012. To receive their permit hunters will need a driver's license or other picture ID, along with a state 2012 hunting license with turkey stamp. Permits will be issued Monday through Friday 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Permits will be available in person only on a first-come, first-served basis at:
Cape Cod National Seashore Headquarters
99 Marconi Site Road
Wellfleet, PA 02667
Race Point Ranger Station
200 Race Point Road
