Seed corn available for Iowa NWTF members

The Iowa State Chapter of the NWTF is taking orders for round-up ready conservation seed corn to be used to plant wildlife food plots.

This offer is available only to NWTF members. Contact Todd Gosselink, Iowa Department of Natural Resources wildlife biologist, at (641) 774-2958 or todd.gosselink@dnr.iowa.gov to place your seed order right away.

There will be a nominal charge of $1 to $2 per bag to cover the cost of shipping the seed to the distribution sites. Each person receiving seed must sign an agreement stating that the seed will be used only to plant conservation wildlife food plots and will not be resold or harvested.

Quantity limits may be imposed to ensure that the seed is equitably distributed. This conservation seed corn has been tested and has a germination rate of approximately 80 percent.

Tentative plans are to distribute seed to NWTF members in late March. Once a delivery date is set, a distribution day will be announced and seed will be distributed to those who have placed an order.

Two distribution sites have been arranged: Snake Creek Marsh Wildlife Management Area, one mile north of Rippey in Greene County, and Iowa River Wildlife Headquarters, one mile south of Swisher in Johnson County.

If you have questions about the NWTF's conservation seed program, contact Dave Whittlesey, Iowa NWTF regional biologist, at (641) 342-2500 or dwhittlesey@nwtf.net.
