NWTF Celebrates National Hunting and Fishing Day

EDGEFIELD, S.C.—The NWTF encourages Americans to celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day by enjoying time in the outdoors and introducing the experience to others.

The NWTF supports National Hunting and Fishing Day, Sept. 28, as a celebration of America's conservation successes and the sportsmen who effectively restored wildlife to its highest level in the last century.

Through purchases of state hunting licenses and taxes on outdoor equipment, sportsmen remain a driving force in conservation funding. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, state fish and wildlife management throughout the nation is funded primarily through the purchase of hunting, fishing and trapping licenses and through billions of dollars in excise taxes collected from the sale of hunting, target shooting and fishing equipment, even motor boat fuels.

Through initiatives like the NWTF-sponsored Families Afield program, positive legislative changes in 35 states have helped create 1 million new hunters. Additionally, an NWTF Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt. initiative goal is to create 1.5 million new hunters who will embrace the outdoors and protect our conservation legacy.

The NWTF Hunting Heritage Programs — JAKES, Women in the Outdoors and Wheelin' Sportsmen — offer events throughout the country to help people of all ages and experience levels enjoy a day outdoors. The events feature expert instructors who guide participants in the safe participation of a wide range of activities, including shooting, archery and fishing.
