Milestone NWTF Convention Offers Something for Everybody

There will be national awards and competitions, internationally famous entertainers, characters from popular reality television programs, the finest taxidermy and custom turkey call displays, a youth area featuring a shooting range and an inflatable cave.

And, of course, more than 700 (the NWTF had to add a new wing on the show floor) booths displaying the latest in top-quality outdoors gear and equipment.

There's definitely something for everybody at the upcoming NWTF Convention and Sport Show Feb. 14-17 at Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn. This year's theme is, "Then. Now. Always."

You may not have time to see everything. But it could be a lot of fun trying.

Yes, the NWTF has pulled out all stops to ensure that the convention marking the NWTF's 40th anniversary is the biggest and best ever. And with the unveiling of the organization's exciting new initiative in conserving habitat and creating new hunters, it promises to be a landmark weekend.

Admission is free for NWTF members and people with military ID to the sport show as well as the Grand National Calling Championships and the taxidermy and decorative turkey call displays. Annual memberships, $35, and one-day admission tickets, $20, will be available at the registration desk. NWTF members are encouraged to bring their membership cards for quicker admission.

The show floor is paradise for hunters and outdoor enthusiasts as the top outdoor manufacturers display their latest products.

Be careful to watch for some of your favorite reality television characters as you stroll between vendors.

Meet the sons of Troy Landry - Chase Landry and Brandon Hotard - from The History Channel's "Swamp People" television series on Feb. 17. They will sign autographs from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and present a members-only Question & Answer session from 2 to 3 p.m.

And be on the lookout or listen for the trademark call of Ernie "Turtleman" Brown Jr., the focus of Animal Planet's "Call of the Wildman" show. Cast members from truTV's "Lizard's Lick Towing" will also be on the show floor.

"The Roost," always a hit with youth, will feature an inflatable cave from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the NWTF JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship) Take Aim portable shooting range and various displays and instruction by representatives of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the USDA Forest Service.

The most exciting competition is the GNCC Head-to-Head event, where callers take the stage at the same time doing their best to lure judges and entertain spectators.

In addition to drawings, which include the title to a new Chevy truck, don't miss your opportunity for great items via auction, either at the show or online.

Special events kick off with the Welcome Party Feb. 14 featuring a performance by Sawyer Brown, a six-time winner of TNN's Country Band of the Year Award. Country music star Craig Morgan will perform at Saturday night's Awards Banquet.

Tickets for special events can be purchased online or at the convention.
