Missouri Youth Enjoy 5th Annual Governor's Youth Turkey Hunt
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The NWTF and its partners Conservation Federation of Missouri (CFM) and Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) recently teamed up with elected officials, including Missouri Governor Jay Nixon, to host the 5th annual Governor's Youth Turkey Hunt.
The 2013 Governor's Youth Turkey Hunt participants
Fourteen youth from across the state participated in a hunter safety class, shotgun-sighting activities, a delicious meal at the Governor's mansion and a spring turkey hunt. At least half of the youth participants harvested their first wild turkeys during the hunt.
This year's youth turkey hunt celebrated Missouri's leadership role in hunter recruitment and retention.
Missouri's adequate and well-distributed public lands, diversity of well-managed resources, special opportunity hunting seasons and areas, affordable hunting prices and less restrictive regulations contributed to its success in recruiting and retaining sportsmen.
The NWTF would like to thank its partners, volunteers and the many landowners who made this year's Governor's Youth Turkey Hunt possible, including David Groenke, the Bill Haag farm, Jerry and Kyle Lairmore, Ron Lehman, Brant Masek, Mitch Merten, Eldo Meyer, Randy Prenger, Bruce Sassmann, Charlie Schlottach and John and Dale Slicker.
