JAKES Take Aim Program Gains Support from YSSA Agreement

EDGEFIELD, S.C. — The NWTF has reached an agreement with the Youth Shooting Sports Alliance that will supplement the NWTF's recently launched JAKES Take Aim initiative to introduce at least 150,000 youth to the shooting sports over the next four years.

Under the terms of the partnership, YSSA will provide firearms, BB guns and archery equipment for JAKES (youth 17 and under) events hosted by NWTF chapters. NWTF CEO George Thornton and YSSA president Cyndi Flannigan signed a memorandum of agreement to mutually support the efforts of both organizations.

The JAKES Take Aim program presents opportunities for youth to try target shooting, clay target shooting and other shotgun shooting sports in a safe, fun environment.

As of November 2011, the JAKES Take Aim programs provide 25 states with their own fully equipped shooting trailers operating at events. Plans call for each of the contiguous 48 states to have fully equipped shooting trailers in 2013. Brenda and Larry Potterfield of MidwayUSA made the program possible with the generous donation of the shooting trailers.

"This partnership further ensures that the youth participating in JAKES events will have the finest, safest equipment available for a great experience," said Tom Hughes, NWTF assistant vice president for education and outreach.

The JAKES Take Aim trailers, available through state agencies and NWTF state chapters, can be used at events such as JAKES Days and wildlife expos, or in partnership with other conservation organizations such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, National FFA Organization, 4-H, Trailblazers and Boys and Girls Clubs.
