Families invited to explore cave, enjoy hands-on activities at NWTF Convention in Nashville

Bookmark and Share

Families, members and youth can enjoy the rare opportunity to explore an amazing inflatable cave exhibit Feb. 10-12 during the 2012 NWTF National Convention and Sport Show at Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville.

Displayed only one other time anywhere, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management's simulated cave features a resin "bat nursery," cave formations, simulated graffiti, cool breezes and informational plaques along its three winding corridors. The cave is 12 feet tall, 35 feet long and 25 feet wide.

Other hands-on activities at The Roost youth area, sponsored by Mossy Oak Brand Camo, will include:

  • Shooting at the JAKES Take Aim indoor air rifle range
  • Shooting at the Scholastic Clay Target Program's virtual clay target range, which the USA Olympic team uses
  • Virtual hunting games
  • Target-based archery practice and a bow fishing program led by Archery Camps USA
  • 4-H shooting sports
  • Fish casting led by the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency
  • Competitions in archery and air rifles
  • Tennessee State Parks' hands-on displays of archeology, birds of prey and geology
  • Smokey Bear and U.S. Forest Service representatives discussing our national forests
  • Educational seminars and activities

Admission is free for JAKES and Xtreme JAKES members. Memberships, available at the convention for only $10, include a one-year subscription to JAKES Country magazine, plus a membership card and membership decal.

With hundreds of youth from area schools scheduled for Friday visits, Saturday and Sunday would be the ideal time for families.
