NRA CEO Calls for President to Focus on Protecting Children

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Wayne LaPierre, CEO and vice president of the NRA, called on the federal government to protect school children and enforce current gun regulations Feb. 14 at the NWTF Convention and Sport Show at Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center.

LaPierre appeared before a standing-room-only crowd of 600 to respond to President Obama's proposals for new restrictions on lawful gun owners during his Feb. 12 State of the Union Address. LaPierre noted with disappointment that the President's speech mentioned nothing about protecting school children.

The NWTF works to pass on hunting rights and skills to future generations, and has successfully reduced legal barriers to hunting in 38 states, resulting in the purchase of 800,000 new hunting licenses.

The right to bear arms is essential to the continuation of the hunting tradition. But those rights would be eroded if new barriers are permitted to limit essential equipment for many hunters. The NWTF remains a strong partner of the NRA and the fight to preserve our Second Amendment rights.
