NWTF Wildlife Officer of the Year
Criteria and Submission Date
I. General criteria:
a. Must be full-time state, federal or provincial wildlife law enforcement officer. (All wildlife law enforcement officers are eligible including specialty officers such as marine patrol, aquatic investigations and recovery, air patrol, etc.)
• a. All nominees for the national award must have won the chapter's
state/provincial officer of the year award, b. The NWTF's state/provincial chapter board of directors must approve the nomination of the selected officer, c. All nominated officers must complete and return the personal information form prior to the deadline. (Attachment 2)
II. State/Provincial chapter criteria:
a. Each participating chapter must submit a form nominating their officer for the national competition. (Attachment 3)
b. Each chapter may submit up to two pages of typed information supporting their nominee. Supporting information may include recent and past accomplishments. Note: Information regarding specific accomplishments has much more value than general comments such as "he/she is a great officer," or "everyone likes him/her," or "he/she always does a great job."
c. Support letters, newspaper clips, magazine clips, etc. may also be submitted.
d. Completed forms and support information must be received by the end of the working day on May 15, 2012.
III. The NWTF's State Board of Directors will select the winning officer at their summer board meeting and forward the nomination for consideration of the national award.

Information to Consider for Wildlife Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
Case Involvement
• Officer should be involved in a variety of work activities. High percentages of case success is not the only criteria. High numbers accompanied by a variety of cases, placing special emphasis on major cases and wild turkey resource violations is an important factor.
Public Relations
• The wildlife law enforcement officer's willingness to participate in public relations activities such as public speaking engagements, writing newspaper columns, television and radio interviews in addition to the officer's involvement in civic or nonprofit organizations.
Attitude
• A positive frame of mind regarding all work assignments.
• The wildlife law enforcement officer's professional approach to the general public.
Enthusiasm
• The willingness to seek work activities through self-motivation.
• The willingness to assist the public with any type of wildlife related problems.
Attitude Toward Other Department Employees And Other Law Enforcement Agencies
• The willingness to interact with other Department employees and his/her eagerness to assist them.
