One of the greatest challenges facing hunters is finding a good place to hunt. While some hunters own their own land, or belong to a hunting club, others search for their perfect spot on public land.

If you're planning to hunt public land during the spring turkey season, now is the time to make your plans.

The NWTF has compiled a few tips to get you on your way to filling your spring gobbler tag on public land:

  • Start by checking out the NWTF's Spring Hunt Guide to find season dates for the states that you hunt.

  • Visit the USDA Forest Services' Web site at www.fs.fed.us to find public hunting land in your state. You can also find information regarding lodging, recreation and what permits you may need for the land you plan on hunting.

  • Check out www.mytopo.com to get a detailed map of the area. MyTopo offers custom topographical or aerial maps of your favorite hunting spots.

  • Check with the state's wildlife agency to get bag limits and season dates by visiting the NWTF's agency page.

  • Join the NWTF to receive six great issues of Turkey Call magazine full of tips and tactics to make you a better hunter, and make a difference for America's great hunting tradition.

By following these steps, you will be well on your way to preparing for a spring hunt you'll remember for a lifetime.
