Galena, Ill. – The Jo Daviess County Longbeards chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation welcomed 100 youth and 60 adult participants to the farm of Kyle and Karen Marsden on August 12, 2017, for the 19th Annual JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship) Day.
JAKES Day is an activity filled event designed to get young and old out of the house and into outdoor recreation and nature. Activities included fishing, bird house building, archery, BB gun and shotgun shooting. The staff from Friendly Lakeside Critters had their farm animals on display as well.
Youth participants received a JAKES Day t-shirt, lunch and several took home door prizes provided by Cabela’s and other local vendors.
“Area vendors were very supportive again this year” said Carla Randecker, donation coordinator for the event.
