Restoration in NWTF's Shawnee Hills Focal Landscape

The NWTF, USDA Forest Service, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Central Hardwoods Joint Venture and Shawnee Resource Conservation and Development collaborated to restore open woodlands on private lands in NWTF’s Shawnee Hills Focal Landscape.

The collaborative efforts between the partners provided cost sharing for private landowners for 1,152 acres of controlled burns, 3,881 acres of timber stand improvement (noncommercial thinning) and 384 acres of invasive species control.

The project included work in 11 counties in Illinois and cost a total of $685,760, which included a $30,000 contribution from the NWTF.
