A Vest Worth Tracking
ALPS OutdoorZ has exceeded our expectations by introducing the newest in their line of turkey vests, the Turkey Tracker Hybrid Lumbar Pack System. This pack system is customizable and includes several removable and movable pockets for spring turkey gear. Made with an old-school, stripped-down feel, this vest performs well in the field in the featured Mossy Oak Bottomland pattern.
The vest's first field test was taking it on an early-season scouting trip. After quickly adding my favorite box and pot calls, it was ready to roll.
While this Turkey Tracker system features a two-point suspender-type configuration for its top, it has a total capacity of 8 liters, so you can still take most any gear into the spring woods. Because the vest features a large main semi-structured compartment with a convenient magnetic closure, I was able to store binoculars until we were in the field searching for a glimpse of a longbeard. The compartment also had room for extra gloves and a gaiter, as well as mouth call containers and turkey hunting snacks.
The flexibility of being super mobile is a premium feature with this vest. Because of the suspender system, your upper body is not hindered by the bulk of a traditional vest, making it easy to maneuver quickly and efficiently. And here in the South, the added fabric of a complete upper vest can have you rethinking lots of choices as the cool spring morning turns into a heatwave glimpse of summer at midday.
The memory foam waist belt is equipped with MOLLE webbing that can accommodate endless accessories and allows custom placement of the included pockets. One of my favorite features is the removable pot call pocket, which securely holds two pot calls and three strikers, along with space for other accessories. It is structured and securely closes with a silent zipper. The pocket will also sit nicely open on the ground beside you, so your calls are ready at a moment’s notice.
The removable structured box call pocket is adjustable for different sizes of box calls, and the removable ThermaCell pocket is essential in the spring turkey woods just about anywhere you go.
ALPS left nothing out, including an expandable elastic water bottle pocket, a front kangaroo pocket for extra storage and compression straps below the pack for stowing gear such as that jacket you needed before daybreak.
You can also add an ALPS Summit Trail Seat (sold separately) to keep you comfortable all day long.
The ALPS easy-cinching technology with front-pull waist belt adjustments makes it simple to adjust to fit most any size hunter (from 31 to 58 inches of adjustment).
