Senate bill S. 2990, introduced by Senator Mike Braun, aims to expand and create federal designations restricting wildlife management across more than 44,000 acres in the Hoosier by expanding the Charles C. Deam Federal Wilderness area by 15,300 acres and creating a new National Recreation Area of more than 29,000 acres.

These proposed designations put in jeopardy much needed habitat and forest management activities on these lands, which are already in declining condition, and will impact access for hunters and outdoor recreationists.

If enacted, it would worsen the challenges already faced by the Forest, such as overly dense and aging tree stands, a lack of species diversity and structure that wildlife depends upon, and insect and disease-prone tree stands that pose hazards to the forest, wildlife, the community, as well as hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts.

Please act TODAY! Reach out to the members of the U.S. Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee and Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee to express your opposition to S. 2990 and ask them to Vote NO on this potentially dangerous bill for communities, hunters and the wildlife who depend on and enjoy the Hoosier National Forest.
