This year, the NWTF Stealth Gobblers Chapter was rejuvenated with a wave of support from a younger generation of volunteers, stepping right into where their predecessors left off. The chapter has set their sights on the future once again, and the tenured committee members and the new members have been full steam ahead to chart the chapter’s path.
Recently, the chapter held a free fishing day at Hazel Hill Lake. The Warrensburg Elementary Schools Adventure Club joined the local NWTF chapter to spend the day learning about fishing and got to enjoy a day at the lake. Thanks to generous donors in the community, each angler went home with a new fishing pole or tackle.
The Stealth Gobblers recent event was part of the NWTF’s JAKES program.
Established in 1981, the NWTF’s JAKES program is dedicated to informing, educating and involving youths 17 and younger in wildlife conservation and the wise stewardship of our natural resources. JAKES events help pass on the traditions of responsible hunting, and teach the principles of habitat management, hunting ethics and safety.
For $10 a year, JAKES receive a year subscription to JAKES Country magazine (four issues), a chance to win a hunt of a lifetime and a membership card.
In addition to events like the one hosted by the Stealth Gobblers, NWTF chapters across the country host various events that engage youth in the outdoors, including mentored hunts for a variety of game species.
The NWTF has dedicated staff, volunteers and partners seeking to introduce nonhunters to the outdoor lifestyle and to share in the greater conservation story.
