The Making Tracks with the NRCS Award recognizes people or projects that best incorporate conservation education, partnerships and wild turkey management to support the NWTF’s conservation delivery.
“I’m only as good as the people around me,” Campbell said. “But it's incredibly refreshing and it’s a little bit humbling winning this award. This is not a reflection of just me; our partners do a ton for us, and I'm so grateful, especially with our reduction in staffing. And I just love being able to deliver what we do.”
As the area resource conservationist for northwest Missouri, Campbell’s main role is acting as a technical lead, overseeing biologists, foresters, soil health scientists, agronomy projects and more. With both forestry and wildlife degrees, Campbell is well-suited to oversee a multitude of projects. When he first started working in conservation 17 years ago, co-workers had over 20 years of experience. But, now as those folks retire, Campbell is taking on an educational role as he teaches new staff how to work with landowners.
About the National Wild Turkey Federation
Since 1973, the National Wild Turkey Federation has invested over half a billion dollars into wildlife conservation and has positively impacted over 25 million acres of critical wildlife habitat. Since 2022, the NWTF has also invested over $2.3 million in critical wild turkey research that, when leveraged with partner contributions, has resulted in more than $22 million to guide the management of the wild turkey and to ensure sustainable populations. The organization continues to deliver its mission by working across boundaries on a landscape scale to deliver healthy forests and wildlife habitats, clean and abundant water, resilient communities and robust recreational opportunities. With the help of its dedicated members, partners and staff, the NWTF continues to unite a nation through the life-changing power of the outdoors.
