Dedicated NWTF volunteers from the South Dakota State Chapter and numerous local chapters throughout the state hosted 24 Wheelin’ hunters at Sioux River Wildlife for their annual Wheelin’ pheasant hunt, marking the event’s 18th year.

“This year’s event was hosted at a family-run hunting preserve that exists to pass on a tradition of hunting in a comfortable, safe and family environment, so it was a great place to host our Wheelin’ event,” said Michael Brown, East Dakota Chapter volunteer. “The owners, Tad and Kathy Jacobs, are incredibly generous, and we thank them for the opportunity to host our event on their exceptional property.”

Over 35 volunteers from the NWTF and South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks attended the event to ensure the Wheelin’ hunters had a successful hunt. Despite unseasonably warm weather, participants hunted hundreds of acres of bluffs along the Big Sioux River and harvested over 90 birds.

“The outdoors is for everybody,” Brown said. “Events like these make me proud to be an NWTF volunteer and want to continue to reach those interested in the outdoors. We are already looking forward to next year.”
