NWTF Turkey Season Kickoff Starts Today

Fresh off its record-breaking 50th Convention and Sport Show in Nashville, Tennessee, the NWTF is channeling that momentum as the spring turkey season approaches. Through its Turkey Season Kickoff — a week dedicated to celebrating the turkey hunting lifestyle and building excitement for spring — the NWTF is offering a digital natural voice owl hooting and gobbling calling contest, limited-edition wild turkey subspecies T-shirts and a variety of hunting content to get hunters ready for opening day.

“There’s so much energy and enthusiasm for the spring turkey season at our Convention and Sport Show; it truly is the ceremonial beginning of the season,” said Pete Muller, NWTF communications director. “Knowing many hunters are still a month or more away from opening day, we want to keep that convention energy alive for our digital audience. Our Turkey Season Kickoff features everything from a natural voice calling contest to informative content to help hunters prepare and build excitement for the season ahead.”

A panel of NWTF staff selected the top eight submissions to the natural voice owl hooting and gobbling contest. These top contestants will advance through audience voting on NWTF’s social media platforms March 3–6.

In addition to the contest, supporters can pre-order limited-edition NWTF T-shirts featuring each of the five subspecies of the wild turkey — Eastern, Gould’s, Merriam’s, Osceola and Rio Grande — as well as the ocellated turkey, a separate species. These shirts are available for pre-order now.

The week will also feature a variety of turkey hunting-related content, such as gear checklists, how to e-scout for wild turkeys, species-specific hunt guides, mistakes to avoid in the turkey woods and more! Spring hunting content will be featured on NWTF.org all spring long.
