The comfort of a delicious sloppy joe isn’t just reserved for beef and venison. This recipe shows that ol’ turkey tom can make one heck of a sandwich loaded flavor. Move over Joe. Tom is in the kitchen tonight.

Ingredients
2 tablespoons olive or avocado oil
1 medium yellow onion, diced
1 large green bell pepper, diced
1 ½ pounds ground wild turkey
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon pepper or to taste
½ teaspoon salt or to taste
1 tablespoon chili powder
5 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
½ cup water, plus more as needed
4 hamburger buns

Instructions
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and green bell pepper and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring often, until softened and lightly translucent. In the last 30 seconds, add garlic.
Add the ground wild turkey to the skillet. Break it up with a wooden spoon and cook until browned and fully cooked through, about 6 to 8 minutes. Season with the crushed red pepper flakes, salt, pepper and chili powder, stirring to evenly coat the meat.
Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, brown sugar and water. Mix well until everything is fully combined.
Bring to a boil, reduce the heat to low, and let the mixture simmer uncovered for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the mixture gets too thick, add a little more water until it reaches your desired sloppy joe consistency.
Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt or heat if needed. Spoon the hot wild turkey mixture onto hamburger buns and serve immediately.
