The NWTF recognizes the significance of this legislation in conserving the migratory paths of big game species like elk, mule deer, and pronghorn, as well as supporting broader wildlife conservation efforts. These migration routes are essential for maintaining healthy, thriving wildlife populations and ensuring that species can adapt to changing environmental conditions. The bill will also benefit wild turkeys by helping to maintain the integrity of habitats that are critical to their survival.
"The Wildlife Movement Through Partnership Act is a critical step forward for habitat and the continued conservation of migration corridors," NWTF Director of Government Affairs Matt Lindler said. "The corridors impacted by this legislation will support big game species and also provide broader ecological benefits, helping to ensure that wildlife, like the wild turkey, continue to thrive."
The Wildlife Movement and Migration Corridor Program will facilitate partnerships between state and federal agencies, private landowners, and conservation organizations to identify and restore migration corridors. These corridors are essential to the movement of wildlife, allowing species to access feeding grounds, breeding areas and safe winter habitats. With increasing pressure from habitat loss, human development and weather-related stressors, the need for these corridors has never been more urgent.
