Sweet onion turkey teriyaki

How many times have you been to one of those sub stores and seen a picture of those sweet onion teriyaki subs then order one and it looks nothing like the picture? Thats what happened to me one too many times and led me to create this delicious wild game inspired sandwich. Don't be afraid to try this recipe and get dirty for dinner.


Turkey breast:
1 skinned turkey breast 
1 cup soy sauce 
1 tbsp ginger, grated 
4 cloves garlic, minced 
1/2 red onion sliced 
1 tsp  cracked pepper 
1/2 cup pineapple juice

Teriyaki sauce:
1/4 Cup Soy Sauce
1 Cup Water
1/2 Teaspoon Ground Ginger
2 Tablespoons Crushed garlic
4 tablespoons Brown Sugar
1 Tablespoon Honey
2 Tablespoons Cornstarch
1/4 Cup Water

Sub rolls 
Red Onion, sliced 
Swiss cheese
Leaf lettuce


  1. Mix soy sauce, ginger, garlic, onion, pepper and pineapple juice, submerge turkey breast in marinade for 6-12 hours up to 24 hours 
  2. Preheat smoker, grill or oven to 275. Take turkey from marinade and place in center of cooking method. 
  3. Cook until internal temp of turkey reaches 155 degrees. Pull and allow to rest
  4. While turkey is resting start on teriyaki sauce. Mix all ingredients minus water and cornstarch. Bring to a boil stirring, reduce heat to simmer. Mix cornstarch and water together until blended, add to sauce mixture and cook until thickened. Remove from heat
  5. Slice your turkey Breast thin, top with Swiss cheese while turkey is still warm
  6. Start building your Sub with remaining ingredients and enjoy .
