While testing out turkey gear is a regular spring occasion at the NWTF, fall is an excellent time to test gear we anticipate using during the coming season. The Time & Motion Easy-Rider turkey vest from Drake Waterfowl and Ol’ Tom fit the bill so we ran it through its paces.
The vest is designed for a turkey hunter and includes all the extras we’ve come to expect. It features easily adjustable straps for a perfect fit. After a few alterations, I was ready to head out on a scouting mission with camera in tow, since there is no fall turkey season in South Carolina.
The vest was as comfortable along my hike through 6-year-old longleaf pines as it was when I stopped to sit against a large oak. It features front and side adjustment straps for the right fit whether on the stalk or an extended sit in a blind. The padded shoulder straps turn a heavy load into an easier haul.
As I stopped to sit at the base of a tree, the attached drop-down seat was easy to deploy and is comfortable even for an extended sit. When not in use, the seat attaches to the back of the vest via magnet system that “snaps” back together quickly for those spur of the moment moves.
The vest also has a built in “T-beam” back pad so long sits against an old oak tree are easier on the back. The padding is not bulky and well placed for maximum comfort.
An abundance of pockets and pouches on its outer shell make storing and retrieving turkey calls a breeze. With conveniently located box call and slate call pouches, it’s easy to switch tactics if the toms are not cooperating. Strikers also are within easy reach with the vest’s exclusive “quick-draw” striker sleeves.
The Easy-Rider vest has a large zipper pocket on either side behind the call pockets for larger gear as well. Two detachable, adjustable locator call cords keep those calls handy, but out of the way, during the hunt.
The interior mesh pockets are a great place to store extra “just-in-case” gear. The vest has a huge game bag and has hidden pockets within this area for storing any extra items that you may not need as often.
Whether your turkey season is cold or warm, this vest has you covered. The vest’s adjustable sizing allows for extra layers underneath for those cool morning hunts but also features a mesh lining to keep you cool on those warm southern afternoon hunts.
After the field test, the Easy-Rider vest is definitely one I’ll keep in my turkey hunting wardrobe when spring comes. From the thoughtful placement of the call pockets to the adjustable straps, this vest is functional and comfortable for men and women hunters. Simply put, it’s a good all-around turkey hunting vest that is sure to please even the most discerning turkey hunter
