A major highlight of the meeting was the unveiling of a new feature on the NWTF Government Affairs and Advocacy page. This tool empowers NWTF members to track current federal and state legislation, see NWTF’s stance on specific issues and take action by voicing their support or opposition.
At the state level, the NWTF actively influences legislation and regulations that impact its mission, members and the broader sporting community. Engagement in CSF’s State Sportsmen's Caucuses and participation in initiatives like "Camo at the Capitol" provide critical platforms for hunters, anglers and conservationists to advocate for their interests.
In 2024, NWTF conservation staff monitored 92 policy items, with NWTF state chapters actively engaging in 36 bills or regulations — either in support or opposition. Through diligent monitoring, NWTF staff ensured that legislation impacting the organization’s mission received appropriate attention. Key victories in 2024 included the defeat of Proposition 127 in Colorado, Vermont S. 258 and Oregon IP3, all of which posed significant challenges to conservation and hunting interests.
Currently, NWTF state chapters and staff nationwide continue to engage in a wide range of legislative actions covering access, habitat management, wildlife conservation, hunting traditions, wild turkey conservation, firearms regulations, fees and fundraising.
The NWTF convention serves as a cornerstone event for conservation leaders nationwide, offering a forum to discuss pressing policy issues, share strategies and collaborate to further NWTF’s mission. By collaborating with both state and federal lawmakers and agencies, the NWTF strengthens advocacy efforts that protect hunters' rights and enhance conservation initiatives across diverse landscapes.
